Dear All,

Is it safe to drive 1 Crown XLS 602 amp with 4 [2 pairs] JBL JRX 115 speakers?

This means the amp will get a 2 ohm load.There are only specs for 8 and 4 ohm loads in the brochure.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

Yes will be in stereo mode.

This is the situation: I have Crown XLS 602 with 2 pairs of JRX 115's both to be used as full range speakers.

the JRX 115's are 8 ohms so two per side will give you 4 ohms or 16 ohms, if you plug them paralel then you'll get 4 ohms, if you plug then in serie you'll get 16 ohms

Two 8-ohm nominal speakers in parallel on one channel of an amplifier gives a 4-ohm nominal load. Three in parallel will be a nominal 2.66-ohm load and four 8-ohm speakers would be a nominal 2-ohm load load.

A speaker’s impedance is frequency dependant. That is to say at certain frequencies it will be higher and at others it will be lower than the nominal impedance. It is always best to not load down an amplifiers channel to it's lowest rated impedance. If the four speakers are nominally 2-ohms that means that at certain frequencies the amplifier is seeing below 2-ohms. This is not good as the amps protection circuits may kick in determining it's a short or the amp may prematurely overheat.

If the XLS402 can provide enough power under the amplifier selection guidelines we have used in other postings and you keep only two 8-ohm speakers per channel of the amp it should handle a 4-ohm load per channel fine.

Thanks for all your replies

I decided to buy 2 Crown XLS 602.

This my set up will be:

Mixer--->dBx 260 O/P 1-2---->High O/P------>XLS 602------> JBL JRX 115

O/P 3-4----> Mid O/P------>XLS 602------> JBL JRX 115

Crossovers will be set to full range.
