Pheonix Connector - Help

Hi, first post, nice forum!

I've just won a bid on a CTs600 amp to be used in my home studio for monitoring purposes. I don't quite get the 3 pin pheonix connectors. If I want to go from a balanced 1/4" output to it, I need to strip the cable > connect the wires to a 3 pin pheonix terminal block > stick that in the inputs? Do I need the terminal block between the stripped wires and the amp inputs?

Did I get this right?

BTW

Any comments on the sound of this amp?

Thanks!

Another short question regarding the fans.

Do they tend make a noticeable amount of noise? Will they even come on in low-moderate volumes when the amp is only used to drive two bookshelf speakers?

The fans shouldn't come on in reasonably climate-controlled environs during mid-to-low levels of program material. They are variable-speed, so even when they do come on, usually they run low at first.
