What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a protocol, an application of XML, that provides an open method of syndicating and aggregating Web content. By subscribing to RSS files, users can have constantly updated content from web sites delivered to them. RSS powers many popular applications such as weblogs, knowledge management networks, and news syndication.

How do I start using RSS Feeds?
In general, the first thing you need is something called a news reader or "aggregator." Aggregators are software specifically tailored to receive RSS feeds. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS Feeds you want.

Where can I get a news reader?
There are many commercial, freeware and open-source choices available. The following link to the Google.com site provides links to many such programs: RSS Newsreaders Google Search. From that page, choose a link under "Categories" to find the type of reader you are interested in.

You can also use a web-based service to subscribe to RSS content. Following are two such popular services

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their websites.

Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want. Most Web sites that offer RSS content will display a small orange "RSS" or "XML" button which provides a link to the feed. Depending on the program you choose to read RSS Feeds, you can subscribe to the RSS Feed by dragging the URL of the Feed into your news reader, or by copying the same URL and pasting using the new feed dialog in your news reader.

What RSS Feeds does Crown currently offer?
Currently, Crown offers an RSS Feed providing press releases, and another RSS Feed for software and firmware updates and other announcements relative to Crown network-capable products. We will be looking at other possible uses for this technology in the future.

When are the Crown RSS Feeds updated?
We update the Feeds as soon as new relevant information is posted to our website. The feeds are never updated before the website since each item in the feeds contains a link back to the Crown website for more information. Typically, the RSS Feeds are updated within just a few minutes of the website.
