XLS DriveCore Series
- Product Review (submitted on April 30, 2013):
I have been using a Crown Drivecore XLS-2000 now for about 7 months. It's performance has been flawless. Major advantage is light weight. It's got more power than my old Powerbase 2 and weighs 16 Lbs less. You can really feel the wight loss when lifting the amp rack. It's got more features as well, with built in crossovers and a nice limiter to prevent overloads.
When using it, the sound is more "laid back" than what I was used to with the PB2, although more mellow I fear it might not be as "quick" sounding as the PB, but for it's intended use this shouldn't be an issue. I also noticed that the gain before feedback is greater with the XLS drive core as well.
My recommendation is: "Go for it", you get a whole lot of bag for the buck, and outstanding value, and it is less likely to break the back. However critical listeners in a home stereo environment might notice a lack of "detail" compared to a Crown DC-300 or other audiophile acclaimed amp-but, hey, that's not what this is for.
