How can I pick up ambient stage sound for in-ear monitors?

I'm looking for a pair of mics that would pick up ambient stage sound for a rock band to dial into their in-ear monitor systems. Would the Sound Grabber II be appropriate for this? The object is to have the in-ears sound more "open".

Reply: The Sound Grabber II is medium-impedance unbalanced with a mini phone plug connector, so it is not recommended for long cable runs. The next step up is the PZM-185, which is low-impedance balanced with an XLR connector. It works on phantom power or an internal battery. A pair of those on the floor would definitely pick up ambient stage sound. Try to find two spots where the
mics are not too close to the floor monitors or instruments.
