IQ Network Compatibility Issues

What follows is a component-by-component detailed breakdown of compatibility requirements for all Crown IQ hardware, including discontinued products.

To see a chart that shows which Crown amplifiers are compatible with various IQ-PIP and analog PIP modules, click here.

IQ Interfaces

IQ-INT-3

The IQ-INT-3 supports almost all IQ products including both original and IQ2 protocol. It also supports direct modem communication. If an INT-3 is in the system, it must be the system interface. Because the Drone carries the same stipulation, the Drone and the INT-3 are mutually exclusive. Software does not see the INT-3 as a component and will therefore work with any DOS or Windows IQ software.

IQ-INT II (Discontinued)

The IQ-INT II (version 2.2x), now obsolete, supports almost all IQ products including both original and IQ2 protocol. It also supports direct modem communication (firmware 2.2 or higher). As with the INT, older INT II units may be field upgraded to add direct modem support. If an INT II is in the system, it must be the system interface. Because the Drone carries the same stipulation, the Drone and the INT II are mutually exclusive. Software does not see the INT II as a component and will therefore work with any DOS or Windows IQ software.

IQ-INT (Discontinued)

The original IQ-INT, now obsolete, can be used only with non-IQ2 components. It does not support direct modem communication. IQ-INT units may be upgraded to INT II compatible with a field upgrade of the firmware chip. The IQ-INT will work with any IQ software. The IQ-INT supports the following IQ components:
IQ-PIP original hardware, all firmware versions.
IQ P.I.P.-AP, -APM, and -APS.
SMX-6, MPX-6, AMB-5 mixers.
MRX-12/12S/24/24S Relay cards.
White Instruments 4700IQ and 4700-2IQ EQs.

IQ-PSI Pocket Serial Interface (Discontinued)

The IQ-PSI is a compact interface designed to be used for setup of small systems where no INT II / INT-3 will be permanently installed, or for convenient troubleshooting or setup of large systems where a laptop PC can easily be taken with the PSI to equipment rooms. As an interface, the PSI is mutually exclusive with both the Drone and the INT / INT II / INT-3. It may, however, be used as a system component where an INT II, INT-3, Drone, or another PSI is the system interface (the PSI is an IQ2 component). To use as a component, Turbo 1.3 or higher, Sys-Config II, or IQ for Windows is required; otherwise any DOS or Windows IQ software may be used. To use as interface for diagnostics or troubleshooting of systems with a Drone or INT II / INT-3

MPX-6, SMX-6, and AMB-5 IQ Mixers (Discontinued)

The MPX-6, SMX-6, and AMB-5 mixers are all equipped with serial ports for direct communication with a PC. This allows for convenient setup of mixers in small systems or where the mixer is the only component. These mixers are not IQ2 components and will not serve as interface for IQ2 components. Components supported when used as system interface are the same as the obsolete IQ-INT. In addition, IQ mixers should not be used as system interface if there are 20 or more IQ components in the system. IQ mixers cannot be used as system interface if a Drone, INT / INT II / INT-3, or PSI is in the system. Mixers may be used with any IQ software.

IQ-USM 810 digital processor/digital mixer
(Discontinued)
The IQ-USM 810 is equipped with a serial port for direct communication with a PC. The unit can serve as an interface for other IQ components, both IQ2 and most legacy components. The unit may also be used as a system component where an IQ-INT II is used. The IQ-INT II and IQ-INT 3 are the only other interfaces that may be used with the IQ-USM 810. IQ for Windows software (v4.1+) must be used with the unit.
IQ DRN-16 Drone (Discontinued)

The Drone is an IQ System controller designed for installation in a cardframe. It is a special application product. Designed to replace a PC for day to day system control, the Drone is a powerful tool. Due to its unique nature as system controller, it must be the interface if it is used in a system. The Drone is IQ2 compliant as a system interface and, in that narrow perspective, supports all IQ components. As system interface it may also be used with any DOS or Windows IQ software.
As a system controller, the Drone is much more limited as to the components it supports. Specifically, the Drone may be used to control logical and dB level control functions of the following components only:
IQ-PIP Original Hardware, all firmware versions.
IQ P.I.P.-AP, -APM, and -APS.
SMX-6, MPX-6, AMB-5 mixers.
MRX-12/12S/24/24S Relay cards.
White Instruments 4700IQ and 4700-2IQ EQs.
