Frequency Response (at 1 watt, 20 Hz to 20 kHz): +0 dB, –1 dB.
means that the frequency response of the amp is quite flat from 20Hz to 20KHz. 1KHz is only one frequency of the bandwidth.
So, what is the power at 20Hz? For the XLS, it is the same between 20Hz and 20KHz : 440W into 8 ohms.
Comparison : The XLS is a smps (Sample Mode Power Supply) powered device while the MA2400 uses a conventional analog power supply, with big transformers. As far as power is concerned, I believe the MA2400 is more powerful (505W into 8 ohms, 20Hz to 20Khz) but not by much. I also noticed the discrepancy about the 1KHz : The MA has a spec at 1KHz and another one for 20Hz to 20KHz. I must say, that power ratings for 'analog' amps can have weird ratings because of the way the power supply is built. With a smps, the power delivered to the output is more 'constant'.
Also, check the weight of the XLS : it is featherweight light! That should be a great plus for anyone handling a lot of MA amps!
