Amp with 3.5mm adapter not playing through a computer

I have a crate amp and I have a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter and I first plugged it into my phone, and I heard a VERY VERY faint sound in the background, and it was really distorted, and it was the same thing in my PC.

I read something about iphones and PC's are double channel while an amp is mono, is that why?

Also, how can I play it so I can use this setup:

The problem is that the signal level coming out of the iPhone or your pc isn't pro grade, what you need is a small mixer in between the iPhone/pc and your amp that will amplify the signal just enough so it would fit your amp.

Any cheap reliable mixer would be fine, here are a couple of examples with the first being my favorite but the second one has a USB recording/playback feature:
