It seems that the only difference between the MT and MA amps is cosmetic...If that is the case why didn't crown ever develop a Microtech 3600, 5000 etc?????

The 3600vz and 5000vz are a specialized amplifier for the MA series that use the VZ circuitry to dynamically adapt to both signal and load requirements in real time. Since the MTs are a step down in options from the MA’s the highend technology of the VZ amplifiers was reserved for the MA series.
