GAIN OF OUTPUT DEVICES

2 posts in this topic

I seem to remember an old wives tale that when replacing outputs in multiple pair amps like DC -300's etc. The more desirable devices typically have lower gain as they current share better. Is this really the case?Or are state of the art higher gain devices better?

Crown has used the 'grade' indicator for many years to locate and caracterize their output devices. I don't know if they typically have lower gain but the grading has to do with current share. I don't think that gain per se, is the critical factor as much as having the same share current and a similar rise time.
