XTI 2000 Idle Temp

3 posts in this topic

I recently aquired a XLS 2000 and I noticed it's warm to the touch when idle. On my newer XLS amp, I noticed the internal fan will momentarily turn off thus the chasis is always cool. I have yet noticed thise feature on the XTI and would like to inquire if it should be doing this. If not and designed to run warm when idle, not a problem.

Hello pwr,

Basically the two amps are different! :) The XLS2000 is a BCA (Balanced Control Amplifier) compared to the XTI which is a normal push-pull amplifier. Because the BCA amplifier section is 'always' on and would be dissipating 'some' power even when idle, the intent is to let the amplifier 'sleep' when no signal is applied; The amplifier is reactivated as soon as signal is detected. And, this is fast! The XTI, being conventionnal, doesn't need a 'sleep' circuit: It cools down by itself because it doesn't dissipate power when idle, unless the output bias level is set too high!
