An amp for SRX728's: XTi, XLS, MA

6 posts in this topic

I am deciding on what amp to power two SRX728's. I only have $2000-$2500 of budget to work with. The XTi4002's fall within the budget, and so do the XLS5000's. The MA9000i (or any Macrotech) does not. Am I missing a possibility?

I have seen this topic discussed before in various threads - and it seems that two XTi4002's won't drive the 728's to their full potential.

How far from their potential are we talking? Any way to quantify how much performance I might be missing from them?

What are your opinions on two XLS5000's for the pair? How about a single XTi6002?

This is a tough speaker to power. I think of your options, dual 4002's would be better. The XTi6002 just can't put enough power in to both speakers.

I'll tell you what Kevin and Tom probably can't... for this budget, get a used i-Tech 8000 or the 6000 and you're all set plus change to spend :-)

Don't bother with the XTI's, you'll end up replacing them quicker then you think and spending more money then you would have buying the expensive amp straight away.

Those would work great. Give us a call with the serial number of the IT so we can tell you if it has the updates you would want it to have.

Wait till you upgrade your amps and see how much more sound your 728's have :-)
