To Bridge or not to bridge : that is the question

4 posts in this topic

dear

i have Bose MA 12 speakers http://worldwide.bose.com/pro/en_us/web/pa...eaker/page.html

it is 300 watt @ 8 ohm

i'll make an arrangement of 4 speakers as following 2x8ohm series = 16 ohm , and 2x16ohm parallel = 8 ohm again and wattage = 4*300=1200 watt on total 8 ohm , this arrangement will be repeated 4 times = i have total of 16 speakers

and i want to use XTI family http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xti2.htm

my question is : is it better to use on XTI 6002 @8ohm = 1200 watt per channel or to use 2xXTI2002 as bridge mono giving me 1600 watt at 8 ohm bride...

by the way using two XTI2002 is cheaper than one 6002

any recommendations from Crown/users?

I understand your series parallel combos, but I'm confused why you are looking at the 8ohm numbers on an amp. It seems like you have 4 sets of speakers, each set is 8ohms. Is each set to have it's own audio source or level control? If you connect two sets of speakers onto one channel, that would result in a 4ohm load and you should use those numbers.

I guess I am just confused how you are going to run 4 sets of 8ohm speakers, but are looking at 8ohm specs on just one or two amps.

Please clarify for me.

thanks for your reply

i'll not connect the 4 sets into one amplifier.... only 4 speakers =1200 watt / 8ohm on one bridge XTI2002 or one channel of XTI6002

and i'll repeat this 4 times , so total 16 speakers on 4 XTI2002 or 2 XTI6002

what is your recommendation

If you wanted to run each set of speakers off of one channel, 8ohms per set, you would need either 4x XTi2002's in bridge mode or 2x XTi6002's in stereo mode. If you could pair up the sets together, 8 speaker sets to create a 4ohm load, you could probably get away with just 1x XTi6002 running in bridge mode.

If you didn't need any DSP, I would take a look at the XLS DriveCore series. You could do this with either 4x XLS1500's in bridge mode if you needed them all on separate channels, or 2x XLS2500's also in bridge mode if you could pair the sets up.
