phantom power for soundgrabber ii

3 posts in this topic

If you are looking at using phnatom power I would recommend you move up, at least one model, to the PZM-185. It is basically the same as the Sound Grabber 2 but it can be powered by phantom power while the Sound Grabber II can not.

Being a little more specific, phantom power into a Soundgrabber 2 will fry the FET in the mic capsule. The PZM-185 has the required electronics to handle 12-48V phantom power, where the Soundgrabber 2 does not.

So, do not try to attach an XLR connector to the Soundgrabber 2 cable and connect to a mic input with phantom power, unless you want to destroy a working microphone.
